No Second Super Over in Lanka Premier League

There won't be a Second Super Over in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), according to Farveez Maharoof, the former cricketer and the media official of the Kandy Tuskers team.   

The first match between the Colombo Kings and Kandy Tuskers in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota ended in a Tie and Colombo Kings won the one-over eliminator.  

The Playing Conditions allowed the Second Super Over in the IPL. It was not only IPL but T20 cricket's first-ever twin Super Over encounter.  (Kings XI Punjab beat Mumbai Indians).

"In the ongoing LPL, will not have a Second Super Over. If there's a tie after the first Super Over, the team scoring maximum boundaries (fours and sixes) will be the winner. This is how the Playing Conditions are decided",  Farveez Maharoof speaking exclusively over the telephone from his hotel room in Hambantota explained on Friday morning.

Interestingly, the ICC was slammed for “ridiculous” boundary-count rule that decided the World Cup winner. England won their first World Cup on the basis of a superior boundary count against New Zealand in the finals played at Lord’s last year.

Irfan Pathan injury

On Irfan Pathan's injury, Mahroof said, "Medical team management of the Kandy team is monitoring his hamstring injury. At present we are not sure whether he would be able to play the next or or when would be available".

After bowling five balls in his second over, Indian all rounder Irfan was clutching his hamstring and was taken off.  

Kandy's next match is against Dambulla Viking on Saturday.
