Sourav Ganguly lauds 'consistent' Kohli, Rohit following India's ODI series win vs NZ
The visitors sealed the series 3-0 following a seven-wicket win against the Kiwis on Monday at Mount Maunganu.
Mumbai: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Monday praised the Indian cricket team following their ODI series win against New Zealand.
The ‘Prince of Kolkata’ went onto to say that the team’s performance was better than their recently-concluded tour of Australia and added that the Men in Blue have completely dominated so far.
"It's been a better performance than Australia. It has been complete domination and it's good to see them dominate at home and away as well. The confidence has been great and it's quite impressive to see the bowlers get them out in 50 overs. It's been a great year for India in ODIs,” the 46-year-old said to India TV.
The visitors sealed the series 3-0 following a seven-wicket win against the Kiwis on Monday at Mount Maunganui, where Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma scored fifties.
While Ganguly expressed his happiness on Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal’s performance, he also went onto explain the importance of Kohli and Rohit in the team.
Kulcha have strangled the New Zealand batsman and overall the team has been excellent. Especially Rohit and Kohli, who have been so consistent, you don't have such a top order in any other team in the world. India are ahead of other teams in ODI cricket. This might be one of the best World Cups we may witness,” he said.
While Kohli has been rested for the remainder of the New Zealand tour, Rohit will be captaining the side. Ganguly said that the 29-year-old got a much-needed break ahead of a hectic cricketing summer which includes the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the ICC Cricket World Cup in England.
He needs the rest. Virat plays all three formats and with his back giving trouble in between, it was a good decision to rest him, especially with Australia touring India, followed by the IPL and the World Cup," the former Bengal cricketer said.
