Virat Kohli entertained fans with a knock of 131 against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI.
Colombo: Team India captain Virat Kohli on Thursday became the leading run-scorer in ODIs in 2017 after his blistering knock of 131 against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI here. The right-handed Delhi batsman was in fine form on Thursday and never looked out of touch as his mammoth knock of 131 helped India reach 225-2 in just 29.3 overs.
The 28-year-old now comfortably stands on top of the leading run-scorer’s list for 2017, with already 907 runs to his name. South Africa’s Faf du Plessis is just behind him, with 814 runs.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain also broke Sourav Ganguly’s record of 16 to score most number of centuries (17 tons) as Team India captain.
Kohli’s records does not end there. With his 131, the score the joint highest by a captain in ODIs in Sri Lanka, along with Arjuna Ranatunga who scored 131 in 1997 against India in the Asia Cup.
The 219-run stand between Kohli and Rohit became the highest for the second-wicket partnership, bettering a 197-run partnership in the first ODI against Sri Lanka recently, which was involved between Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.
Kohli, who got to his 29th ODI ton, is just one behind Australia’s Ricky Ponting in equalling the number of centuries in ODIs, and 20 behind Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the table with 49 ODI centuries.
