Sharjah: Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and fast bowler Shannon Gabriel shared seven wickets and restricted Pakistan to 255-8 on the first day of the third and final test on Sunday.

Gabriel (3-58) provided West Indies with a dream start with two wickets off the first four deliveries of the match and Bishoo (4-74) grabbed four in the last session before the day's play was called off seven overs early because of bad light.

Left-handed opener Sami Aslam batted for two sessions to top score with 74 before he fell to Bishoo in the first over after tea.

Captain Misbah-ul-Haq (53), who won his third successive toss and opted to bat, Younis Khan (51) and Sarfraz Ahmed (51) also scored half centuries but couldn’t convert their solid starts into big scores as Pakistan lost their last four wickets for 18 runs.

Earlier, Gabriel jolted Pakistan top order when he had Azhar Ali caught in the second slip and then successfully went for an lbw television referral against Asad Shafiq in a dramatic four balls of the first over to reduce Pakistan to 1-2.

Younis and Aslam then revived Pakistan with a 106-run stand in over 2-1/2 hours but not before West Indies missed out on the opportunities to separate the pair before lunch.

Off-spinner Roston Chase twice came close to dismissing Younis on 30 in the space of three balls but first Leon Johnson dropped him at mid-wicket and then wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich missed a leg side stumping.

Despite the two lapses before lunch West Indies conceded only 67 runs in the second session.

Brief scores:  Pakistan 225/8 in 83 overs (S. Aslam 74, Y. Khan 51, Misbah-ul-Haq 53, S. Ahmed 51, S. Gabriel 3/58, D. Bishoo 4/74).
