Former footballer James Jakrias no more

James was the captain of the Andhra Pradesh football team in the year 1972 and a long-standing coach with the State Bank of Hyderabad as well.

Hyderabad: Former national level footballer, coach and referee James Jakrias passed away here on Saturday. He was 75.

Funeral mass will be held on Sunday at the St Anthony’s Church in Gandhinagar (R.K. Puram, Secunderabad) at 11am.

James was the captain of the Andhra Pradesh football team in the year 1972 and a long-standing coach with the State Bank of Hyderabad as well.

James started as a boxer and played football for City College Old Boys club in 1961. He also represented the Osmania University and the Andhra Pradesh Police teams and played for AP against the visiting Denmark team at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad in 1965.

Subsequently, he coached state sides and was also a qualified Class I referee.

The Telangana Football Association condoled the demise of James and observed a two-minute silence at a meeting held at the TFA office.
