Lionel Messi was 18 minutes from death on Colombia crash aircraft

Sao Paulo: Star striker Lionel Messi and other Argentine football superstars were 18 minutes from death, when they flew on the Bolivian LaMia flight two weeks before it crashed.

The same flight crashed on November 28 in Colombia with Brazilian football club AF Chapecoense players onboard – killing 75.

According to a report by Brazilian portal Folha de Sao Paulo, the Argentine team, which was onboard the flight spent more than four hours in air on an aircraft which could fly with a full tank for just four hours and 22 minutes.

The players took the flight on November 11 from Brazil to return to Buenos Aires after playing their World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

The report claims the aircraft had just an 18 minute margin for error before landing safely, while the Argentine authorities insist on 45 minute difference between flight length and fuel capacity.
