How is Harmanpreet Kaur still India captain? Ask BCCI officals over fake degree probe
Harmanpreet was earlier stripped of her rank as DSP in Punjab, a post which was offered to her by Amarinder Singh.
Mumbai: The controversy surrounding Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their comments about women made on TV show Koffee with Karan has come as an unexpected matter for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
But with question marks over the participation of the duo at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, another big issue has cropped up.
Senior BCCI officials have now questioned Harmanpreet Kaur, the T20 captain of the Indian women’s cricket team over possessing a fake degree certificate last year.
That saw the hard-hitting batswoman being stripped of her rank as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Punjab, a post which was offered to her by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for her scintillating performance in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017.
The Indian cricket board had stayed mum on the matter but after the suspension of Pandya and Rahul from India’s ODI series against Australia, officials have brought up the issue once again, according to a report by the Times of India.
“If Pandya and Rahul have to serve a suspension pending inquiry, then what about Harmanpreet Kaur? She's the captain of the Indian team at a time when she's busy being investigated for possessing a fake graduation degree. Someone wants to conveniently protect her but ban these two cricketers for a year for what? For posterity?” few BCCI officials questioned.

Harmanpreet, who was previously serving in the Indian Railways, was relieved from her duties in March last year after she put forward a request to join Punjab police. But only after Amarinder Singh requested the Railway Ministry to waive off the bond condition, Harmanpreet was transferred to Punjab police.
