Indian Super League lands in food price mess
Organisers booked for selling food and beverages at exorbitant rates.
Kochi: The Legal Meteorology Department has registered a case against Indian Super League (ISL) organisers after it found that food and beverages were allegedly sold at exorbitant prices at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here during the ISL matches. The inspection was carried out at food stalls inside the stadium and also on its premises on December 4. “A case was registered under section 36 (1) of the Legal Meteorology Act against the Indian Super League organisers and the contractor who was assigned to sell the food and beverages inside stadium during the matches,” said R. Ram Mohan, deputy controller, Legal Meteorology Department.
Though the contractor is primarily responsible for the offense, the ISL organizers too were booked after they failed to take any action to prevent such overcharging. The department will soon file a report to the court based on its investigation. The offense attracts a minimum penalty of Rs 25, 000. Meanwhile, the Motor Vehicle Department has released the vehicle used by the Kerala Blasters which was taken into custody on Thursday for illegal advertising.
“The Volvo tourist bus was released since the players were arriving today. The Thripunithura-based owner was levied with a fine of Rs 1.40 lakh. The bus used to transport Delhi Daredevils too was released and the respective owners were allotted time to remit the fine,” a senior MVD official at the Thripunithura RTO said. It’s mandatory to take the permission of the MVD to advertise on a vehicle for which a fee is to be remitted. However, the same was not done by the vehicle owners.
