Cristiano Ronaldo winning 2019 Ballon d’Or would be illogical, says Iker Casillas
The Porto goalkeeper expresses that the Portuguese forward should not even be in the nominees list.
Mumbai: Former Spain and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has stated that it would be unfair if Cristiano Ronaldo wins the 2019 Ballon d'Or award. The Porto goalkeeper expresses that the Portuguese forward should not even be in the nominees list.
As per a report by MARCA, Casillas tweeted, "(Virgil) van Dijk was chosen as UEFA's best player; (Lionel) Messi was chosen by FIFA; if Cristiano wins the Ballon d'Or, it would seem to me that the guidelines we use in football to determine who wins its biggest individual awards are not logical."
As per the report, generally, the nominees for the Ballon d’Or award is selected by the captains and coaches from entire nationals teams, that are registered under FIFA-affiliated federations in five continents. Moreover, the fans also get to pick their choices through an online ballot which is around 50 per cent of the ultimate result.
