John Terry dabbles in Portuguese
It could suggest Terry is set to trade London for one of the warmer cities of Portugal.
Chelsea captain John Terry’s contract is set to expire in the summer and there has been little official word on where he may move. But the former England international may have dropped a hint over his future in a post on social media. Terry uploaded two photos to his Instagram story on Friday afternoon, which showed that he is learning Portuguese in his spare time.
It could suggest that Terry is set to trade London for one of the vastly warmer cities of Portugal. He would not be the first icon of the game to make the switch to the Portuguese league, with Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas moving to Porto in summer 2015.
That said, there is little guarantee that Terry is learning Portuguese for the sake of a summer transfer. After all, Chelsea have a significant Brazilian contingent in their squad, which might just mean that Terry is looking to improve his communication with Diego Costa and David Luiz.
Alternatively, the veteran defender may be preparing for a career in management, something he regularly offers updates on his social accounts. It would be a useful tool in any manager’s locker to be able to communicate in Portuguese, which is the sixth most spoken language in the world.
