Does the senior Indian football team want head coach Stephen Constantine sacked?
Under Stephen Constantine, the Indian team recently qualified for the Asian Cup tournament in 2019 for the first time since 2011.
Mumbai: Some of the players of the Indian football senior team are unhappy with head coach Stephen Constantine, and are looking to remove the British coach from the post.
According to The Telegraph, some of the veteran players of the team feel that the 55-year-old was not technically good enough to lead the Blue Tigers.
On the issue, Federation General Secretary Kushal Das, however, said he was not in a position to speak on it.
"I do meet players, coaches and officials regularly on various issues. I am in no position to discuss such things," he said.
"When a member asked whether the coach's contract would be renewed beyond 2018 March, the general secretary stated the players expressed some dissatisfaction about Mr Constantine," a member who attended the meeting said.
Under Constantine, the Indian team recently qualified for the Asian Cup tournament in 2019 for the first time since 2011, after a 4-1 win over Macau earlier this month.
Some sources state that the veteran coach hardly praised the team after crucial victories in some matches.
Also, Constantine during this year, took Team India to the top 100 in the FIFA rankings for the first trime in 20 years, an achievement which received a lot of praise from former and current players.
The report also suggested that the players are likely to meet AIFF President Praful Patel to discuss the issue.
