Hyderabad: Decorated advocate, Harish Salve is set to represent the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in a case related to the disqualification of wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the 50kg Wrestling event of the Paris Olympics.

The IOA and Phogat approached the Court of Arbitration for Sports seeking a joint silver medal.
On Tuesday, Vinesh Phogat created history by becoming the first Indian female wrestler to reach the finals of the Olympics. However, she was disqualified from the competition after she weighed 100 grams more than the prescribed weight. Phogat and team tried all the available remedies to cut down the weight but found no luck.
Harish Salve confirmed to the news agency ANI that he will be standing for the IOA to fight Phogat's case.
Salve served as the Solicitor General of India from 1999 to 2002 and appeared in many popular cases including the Salman Khan's Hit and Run case and Kulbhushan Jadhav case to name a few.
In 2020, he was appointed as the Queen's Counsel for the courts of Wales and England. It is a prestigious designation given by the monarch in recognition of his significant contributions to the legal profession.
