Hyderabad mother-son duo eye Asia record in open Swimming

Hyderabad: After breaking the national record in open swimming, a 44-year-old mother and her 20-year-old son from Hyderabad are eyeing another unique feat.
Queeni Victoria Gandam and son Stephen Kumar are now set to swim in the Goa beaches from Vagator to Candolim (2-way) to emerge as the finishers of the "longest nonstop swimming relay by a duo in a sea".
The India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR) have already sent provisional acceptance for the event scheduled for March 4.
Mr Surjeet Dadiala would act as the observer for the event, which would raise awareness against drug abuse and prevent the pollution of India’s water bodies.
"We are currently practicing in LB Stadium and will reach Goa a couple of days before the rally to get accustomed to the conditions," Queeni Victoria said.
Adding further, She said, "We are ready, our swim would tentatively begins in the morning around 6 o'clock. We are confident but the only worry is that it's a completely new route. We don't know much about it. If there are just small fishes and dolphins, we might be Ok but if we encounter sharks and other sea life then it would be a little challenging. At the same time we are also very excited given the new challenge."

They swam for almost five hours against the currents to achieve the remarkable record.
Moreover, Queeni, a tailor by profession and a mother of two had become the first woman from the Telugu speaking states to cross the English Channel in 2024, just six years after taking up swimming seriously.
