AFI apologises before Kerala High Court on PU Chitra, seeks plea dismissal
The court will consider the case after Onam vacations because it closed on Thursday.
Kochi: The Athletic Federation of India tendered an unconditional apology before the Kerala High Court and submitted that it had not violated any orders passed by the court in the case of athlete PU Chitra. “I hereby tender my unconditional apology in case I have knowingly or unknowingly violated any orders or directions passed by the court,” CK Valson, AFI secretary submitted. He also sought to dismiss the contempt petition against him and other officials of the AFI.
CK Valson filed an affidavit on a petition filed by PU Chitra who approached the court seeking to initiate a contempt case against Secretary CK Valson, Selection Committee chairman GS Randhawa and President Adille J Sumariwalla for not complying with the High Court order. A Single bench had directed the AFI to ensure the participation of Chitra in the IAAF world championships which was held in London.
According to Valson, on receipt of the order of the Single Judge, AFI had sought to implement the direction, notwithstanding the fact that the AFI had already filed an appeal against the order. After the request, IAAF had responded rejecting the request. The court will consider the case after Onam vacations because it closed on Thursday.
