Kerala State School Athletics meet from Saturday
Around 2,581 students will compete in 95 disciplines under sub junior, junior and senior categories.
MALAPPURAM: The Calicut University stadium in Thenhipalam is all set to welcome more than 2,500 young athletes from various schools across the state for the 60th edition of the Kerala State School Athletics Championship. The four-day annual sports meet will be inaugurated here on Saturday by the minister for education C. Raveendranath. This is for the first time that Malappuram district is hosting the meet. Around 2,581 students will compete in 95 disciplines under sub junior, junior and senior categories.
All the arrangements have been completed and 18 sub committees formed for the supervision of the meet. Around 350 officials have been deputed to various charges. The newly built synthetic turf at the university stadium is the prime venue for the event. For the first time in the history of the state school athletics, False Start Detecting System and Electronic Distance Measure have been installed this year for technical perfection in determining the winners.
Photo finish cameras have also set up at the venues. As part of the green protocol, the use of plastic has been completely banned during the event. Only steel utensils will be used for serving food for the participants. Accomodation for the outstation participants are arranged at 17 nearby schools with police security. The meet would conclude on Tuesday.
