Tamil Nadu athletes dished out a splendid performance to take the pride of place in the overall championships and in the men’s team championship categories at the 38th National Masters Athletics Championship held recently at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.

In the 100 metres of the 70+ men’s section, Tamil Nadu’s M. Joseph clocked 13.6 seconds to take the top place followed by Ananda Babu from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu’s Sebastian who finished third and fourth respectively.

The 65+ age group saw the Kerela athletes dominating by taking the first two places — George Mathew and Vijayan winning them respectively.

Meanwhile in the 100 metres of the women’s 75+ age group, Mukthi Tiru of Jharkhand edged past Assam’s Leela and Manipur’s Pramodini to finish on top. Leela and Pramodini finished second and third respectively.

West Bengal’s Manjushree dominated the 70+ category while Goa’s Perpetua F. Jaques finished runner-up. Elsy from Kerala had to settle for the third slot.
Meanwhile Assam was brilliant in the women’s team championship, emerging winner.
