Pavan Reddy vs Galla Jayadev in AP Olympic row
On April 7, the IOA had issued proceedings recognizing the new association, ignoring the old one.
Hyderabad: Mr J.C. Pavan Reddy, son of Anantapur MP Mr J.C. Diwakar Reddy, has moved the Hyderabad High Court challenging the decision of the Indian Olympic Association in recognising the AP Olympic Association headed by Mr Galla Jayadev, the Guntur MP.
He alleged that the Guntur MP, by taking advantage of the state bifurcation and due to his close relations with the IOA president, had floated another association of the same name parallel to the AP Olympic Association, which has been in existence since 1960. He alleged that Mr Jayadev declared his association the original one after conducting an election.
On April 7, the IOA had issued proceedings recognizing the new association, ignoring the old one. The petitioner said that he was currently the general secretary of the AP Olympic Association, which was the original one, and elections were held of the association last month in the presence of officials from the Sports Authority of AP and a retired judge of the High Court.
He alleged that the IOA representatives, who had sided with Mr Jayadev, had not attended the elections. He said that several representations had been made to the IOA with a plea to recognize the old association as genuine, but there had been no response.
Mr Reddy also alleged that the son of the IOA president was a director in the company owned by Mr Jayadev. He urged the court to grant stay of the IOA proceedings issued in favour of Mr Jayadev on April 7.
