Mike Powell named World 10K run ambassador
With the city's favourite run 12 days away, over 23,700 entries have been registered so far.
Bengaluru: For the ninth edition of the TCS World 10K run, Olympian and long jump world record holder Mike Powell has been named the event ambassador here on Tuesday.
With the city’s favourite run 12 days away, over 23,700 entries have been registered so far. “This year, the city has reacted positively and we have closed the registrations prior to the deadline,” said Vivek Singh, the race director.
In the 10K run, 12, 215 runners have registered and the Majja Run will witness 10,425 participants. Senior citizens (746) and 252 persons will take part in the champions with disability category on the race day.
“This is a fantastic partnership between the private and the government. It brings the city together and inspires people to take up fitness seriously,” said Kapil Mohan, the Principal Secretary to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
For this year, the organisers have seen a steady rise in the corporates.
“Compared to last year, there’ 15 percent rise in numbers in the corporate registrations. It is a good sign that corporates have taken running seriously,” added Singh.
