New Delhi: In a barbaric incident, a 19-year-old taekwondo player was brutally killed by the owner of an eatery, in outer Delhi’s Rohini area on Thursday night.

According to a media report, a glass bottle was smashed on his head and his throat slit with the broken bottle allegedly by the owner.

Police say that the episode triggered off after an argument over payment for a plate of moms. Arun was with this friend Ranjith, also known to the owner.

After committing the crime, the eatery owner allegedly left him behind a garbage dump near Jaipur Golden hospital to bleed and allegedly smashed his face with a stone to hide his identity, police said.

Add to the commotion, Ranjith allegedly helped him dispose of the body. The body was spotted by a passerby on Friday afternoon after which the police were informed. They managed to identify Arun with the help of a tattoo on his arm.

The incident was brought to light on Saturday morning after Arun’s parents started looking for him. They filed a missing report at the local police station.

Arun’s family members said that he left home around 8 pm with his friend Ranjit to have momos but did not return home,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying in the report.

His parents thought that Arun must have gone to his friend’s house for a night stay, but they started worrying after they found his phone was switched off. We have registered a case in the matter and are on the lookout for the eatery owner who is absconding,” he said.

Ranjith has been detained and his role is being probed. The body has been sent for an autopsy and statements of other shopkeepers have been recorded. CCTV footage has also been obtained from the area.

Santram, Arun’s father said, “He participated in several national Taekwondo championships in the past two years and was to represent the country later this year. Why would someone kill him so brutally?”
