Oakridge International School (Gachibowli) defeated Delhi Public School (Golconda) by a massive margin to win the CBSE South Zone Cluster VII Under-19 basketball tournament organised by the VRS & VJ Residential School in Bachupally, Hyderabad.
The final was one-sided with the Oakridge boys running riot to sink baskets at will as they raced to an emphatic 46-25 victory to conclude the tournament held over three days, during which 67 schools participated.
As the scoreline suggests, Oakridge players were aggressive and kept raiding the rival territory with all their might to score points at regular intervals.
Venkata Sivarama Raju was the standout player for the winners, dodging his opponents at will to score 18 points fluently. Captain Venkat contributed 12 to the kitty.
DPS did try to match their superior rivals but in vain as they were left playing catch up all through despite the best efforts of Abhinav and Sujith.
Earlier in the first semifinal, Delhi Public School proved too strong for Navy Children School (Visakhapatnam), sinking them 36-18 to book their place in the title round.
The second semifinal was an easy affair for Oakridge boys, who overpowered Delhi Public School (Nacharam) to brush their rivals aside with an overwhelming 44-7 scoreline. That was indication enough of which way the final would swing.
