Hyderabad: It was Britain’s day at the Indian Open world ranking snooker championship on Friday. Kyren Wilson, Nigel Bond and Shaun Murphy stormed into the semifinals after high class action at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre here. Wilson of England got the better of Thailand’s Akani Songsermsawad, beating him 4-2 — 56-22, 0-71(71), 18-78, 90 (60)-8, 89-16, 50-49 — while Englishman Bond defeated fellow countryman Peter Ebdon 4-3 in a match that went to the last frame, 54-65, 73-0, 76-38, 15-67, 6-72, 100(52)-4, 81-44.
Later, Scotland’s Shaun Murphy subdued David Lilley’s challenge 4-2, coming up with four half-century breaks to beat the England player 83(70)-5, 69(50)-16, 8-88(87), 39-75, 69(66)-8, 89(89)-0.
A second Scottish player is certain to be in the semis as Stephen Maguire and Anthony McGill were locked in an all-Scot affair in the fourth quarterfinal when this edition went to bed.
