Hyderabad: Two players from Hyderabad — Himanshu Jain and Lucky Vatnani — have qualified for one of world snooker’s biggest events, the World Cup to be held in Wuxi (China) from June 24 to 30. It’s a doubles event involving just 24 teams, mostly comprising players from the Professional Tour in the United Kingdom.

This entry for India comes through the qualifying tournament held in UK last month where a series of three tournaments organised by World Snooker — Q School was played by the world’s best amateurs and players picked from among a pool of 218 on order of merit.

Both Himanshu and Lucky came out with a reasonably high ranking after gruelling matches.

“Without doubt this is the biggest event that we’ve qualified for, it is the main TV stage of a world snooker event and we are keen on doing well, this is a door opening for our efforts to go all the way to the UK to play the Q School event at vast expense,” Lucky said.

All was not easy though. “I must thank my sponsors Nuziveedu Seeds as well as @f45 Jubilee Hills where I practice and do fitness,” he added.

Both Himanshu and Lucky will be practicing at the Telangana Cuesports Association in Nanak-ramguda, Hyderabad, for this event, thanks to the support provided by national as well as international cue sports administrator Capt PVK Mohan, as they look forward to making the country proud on the world stage.
