Dipa Karmakar may miss Germany tournament due to lack of gymnasts
The 23-year-old had shot to fame earlier this year, after becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics.
Mumbai: Despite being the first woman gymnast from India to participate in the Olympics, Dipa Karmakar may not be able to participate in a prestigious tournament in Germany.
The 23-year-old had shot to fame earlier this year, after becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics. At the big event in Rio de Janeiro, Dipa went on to win the hearts of the international audience by displaying her mastery over the deadly Produnova vault.
After her return, Dipa was felicitated by a number of state governments throughout the country.
However, it has now come to light that Dipa may not be able to participate in the Challengers Cup in Germany, if the Gymnastics Federation of India fails to find five more gymnasts to send to the tournament.
Dipa’s coach Bishweshwar Nandy has been informed by the federation that they would not be able to participate in the Challengers Cup, if they cannot find a six-member team to send to Germany, according to a report in news portal One India.
However, the federation has asked Nandy to start preparing for a training camp for the tournament, according to reports.
