New Delhi: Delhi Waveriders put up a splendid show, fighting their way past second-placed Kalinga Lancers 6-4 in their Hockey India League-5 match here on Sunday.

In what was an edge-of-the-seat thriller — Delhi dominated the first two quarters before Kalinga came back stronger to almost walk away with a win — Delhi pumped in two goals in the last four minutes to turn the tables on their opponents to seal five points. This was Delhi’s second win from six matches.

Goals from Talwinder Singh (9’, field goal), Justin Ried-Ross (29’, penalty corner conversion) gave Delhi a 3-0 lead before Kalinga once again relied on their mercurial skipper Moritz Fuerste to show them the way.

Goals from Dharamvir Singh in the 40th minute  and Fuerste in the 54th gave them a 4-3 lead. With just six minutes left, Delhi went on all-out attack mode.
Man of the match Rupinderpal Singh brought them level in the 57th minute with a penalty corner strike, before a 59th-minute field goal from forward Simon Child brought victory and cheers to the Delhi camp.
