Faced with sex charges, AP Kabaddi Federation president surrenders

Vijayawada: Faced with allegations that he sexually harassed women players, Andhra Pradesh Kabaddi Federation president Veera Lankaiah surrendered to police on Wednesday.

Inspector Saherunnisa Begum told this newspaper: “Accused Veera Lankaiah has surrendered in the station. We have already registered cases under sections 354, 385 and 409 on him. Accordingly, we will inquire. He is under remand now.”
“He is in remand. We will conduct an inquiry and produce him in court as per procedures,” Joint Commissioner of Police Kranthi Rana Tata added.
Last week, some women kabaddi players had alleged irregularities in selection of teams and pointed fingers at Veera Lankaiah as they staged a dharna. Later, some of them accused him of seeking financial and sexual favours when they sought certificates of participation/ merit from him as president of the Federation.
