Runners set for 7th marathon
Marathon will kick-off in the city on Saturday with more than 20,000 participants running on streets.
Hyderabad: The seventh edition of Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, being organised by the Hyderabad Runners’ Society along with the Government of Telangana State and Bharti Airtel, will kick-off in the city on Saturday with more than 20,000 participants running on streets.
The event which includes four different categories — 5k run, 10k run, Half Marathon (21.1 km) and Full Marathon (42.1 km), will be completed over two days (August 19 & 20).
To provide safety and medical aid facilities to the runners, the organisers will set up 26 aid stations throughout the race course while more than 3,500 volunteers will be on their toes in case of emergency.
Speaking at the Corporate Trophy launch event here on Wednesday, Race director Abhijeet Mandurkar said “Our first & foremost focus is on enhanced race amenities and to ensure runners’ safety.”
Talking about the prizes that will be awarded to the runners, he said: “All the participants who will finish the race will be given a medal while the overall prize money for this edition is Rs 7.2 lakh for the winners in Elite/ Male & Female sections in the 10k run, Half and Full Marathon categories,” said Abhijeet.
Around 50 NGOs will participate in this edition to raise funds for the social issues while 90 corporates will vie for the stylish golden trophy in the Marathon.
