St Francis College are champs

Defeat St Ann's 43-31 in basketball final; Loyola finish third.

St Francis College women’s set their plans right and executed it well to carve out a 12-point victory over St Ann’s College (Mehdipatnam) in the Osmania University Inter-Collegiate Basketball tournament organised by the St Francis College for Women.

In the final, St Francis defeated St Ann’s by a 43-31 scoreline in the game which witnessed great exhibition skills showcased by both the teams. 

In the first two quarters both the teams were going neck and neck with the same scoring and a combination of great speed and agility of endurance to unleash some lightning performances. By the end of the first quarter the scores were levelled at 13 points each and 22 each in the second.

However Francis side accelerated in the third quarter to corner St Ann’s. The scoreline displayed 32-24 by the end of third quarter. 

From fourth quarter Rachana and Padma Priya led the charge for Francis and turned the tides in their favour to help Francis cross the finish line and take the trophy home. The final scores read 43-31 in the hosts St Francis’ favour.

Padma Priya emerged top scorer for the winner side by fetching 20 points while Rachna and Sudeshna played anchor roles by scoring 12 and 11 points respectively. For St Ann’s, Samhitha with 20 points against her name was the top scorer while Ravali scored 11.

Meanwhile, Loyola College carved out a dominant victory over OUCW in the third place by beating them with a 38-18 verdict.

Loyola side started the game in a dominant fashion from the first whistle and continued to lead throughout. D. Manasa was the top scorer for the winner side by fetching 15 points while Tejasri scored 14 for OUCW.

Final: St Francis 43 (Padma Priya 20, Rachana 12,  Sudeshna 11) bt St Ann’s 31 (Samhitha 20, Ravali 11).
First semifinal: St Francis 33 (Archana 18, Rachana 15) bt Loyola College 22 (Manasa 15).
Second semifinal: St Ann’s 35 (Samhitha 13, Ravali 13) bt OUCW 8.
Third and fourth Positions: Loyola College 38 (D. Manasa 15 bt OUCW 18 (Tejasri 14).
