New Delhi: Aspiring pugilists put up a spirited show as they reached the second round in the youth men’s and women’s national boxing championship here on Tuesday.

In the men’s light fly division, B. Ramakrishnan beat Haryana’s Nishat Dev 4-1, Punjab’s Shubham defeated Manipur’s Poonam M. Singh 3-2, while Services Sports Control Board’s Barun Singh thrashed Odisha’s Santosh Bhoi 5-0. Among others, Suraj Soy of Jharkhand, A.K. Rashanzamir of Goa and Uttarakhand’s Suraj Singh Mazila also emerged victorious in the opening round.
In the men’s fly weight, Gurpreet Singh blanked Karambir Bharti 5-0, Ashish Kumar trounced Koyyana Sivakumar 5-0, while Pawan Kumar eked out a 3-2 win over Pawan Kumar. Odisha’s Akshaya Nayak and Kogam Potom of Arunachal Pradesh also cruised into the next round. In the women’s light fly, Punjab’s Babita Rani beat Kerela’s Atulyas Das 3-2, while UP’s Pragati and Chandigarh’s Sheetal emerged winners on unanimous decisions.
