Amandeep Drall seizes five-stroke lead
Pune's Shweta Galande and amateur Suchitra Ramesh were tied fourth with four-over 76.
Bengaluru: Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall seized the first day honours with a five-stroke lead in the Women’s Pro golf championship at the Karnataka Golf Course on Wednesday.
Amandeep, who began in style with a birdie on the first hole, carded a two-under 70 to take a big lead over Gursimar Badwal and amateur Millie Saroha, who were tied second after identical three-over 75.
City girl Sharmila Nicollet endured a poor round to be tied seventh with a six-over 78. Following her bright start, Amadeep saved four more strokes with birdies on the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth holes, while dropping shots on the fifth and seventh.
Amandeep then encountered another bogey on 16th on the back nine.
Gursimar had an indifferent start, carding three bogeys on the first, fourth and fifth holes along with a double on the sixth. She carded the lone birdie on the third hole.
Millie’s card was a mixed bag with four birdies on the first, ninth, 10th and 13th interspersed with five bogeys on the second, third, fourth, seventh and 12th besides a double on the fifth.
Pune’s Shweta Galande and amateur Suchitra Ramesh were tied fourth with four-over 76. Ankita Tiwana was sixth with a five-over 77 after 18 holes.
Tied at seventh with Sharmila was another city girl Trisha Sunil and Mysore’s Sonam Chugh at six-over 78, followed by Neha Tripathi and Siddhi Kapoor at seven-over 79.
