Salman Khan to be dropped as India's goodwill ambassador at Rio 2016?
Bollywood actor's 'felt like raped woman' comment may see him lose the role.
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan may be dropped as the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the Rio Olympics 2016 following a controversy over his “raped woman” remark.
"When I used to walk out of the ring after the shoot (for movie Sultan), I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn't walk straight," Salman had said during a pre-IIFA event in Mumbai.
Taking offence against Salman’s comment, India's chef-de-mission for Rio Games and Indian Olympic Association’s joint secretary, Rakesh Gupta, said that Salman should immediately issue a “public apology” for his comment.
"He shouldn't have used this analogy to describe his shooting schedule. He should have given a different answer or cited some other example. This way he has hurt the image of Indian sports. This statement will have an adverse effect with the Rio Olympics fast approaching," ‘dna’ quoted Gupta as saying.
"His comments as goodwill ambassador would send wrong message to all the sportspersons in the country. He should immediately apologise for his remark," added Gupta.
While Gupta did not say whether the Bollywood star would be dropped from the role, there are reports indicating Salman is already told of his sacking.
