Hyderabad: All is not well between Ravichandran Ashwin and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. So it seems after Captain Cool’s fans trolled the ICC Cricketer of the Year on social media for not thanking his ex-captain in a speech posted on the Indian Cricket Team’s Facebook page on Thursday.

In the video posted after he won the ICC award, Ashwin praised skipper Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble. Ashwin was picked for the team when Dhoni was captain. Notably, there was no tweet from Dhoni’s Twitter handle congratulating Ashwin for winning the ICC’s top award.

“I’d like to dedicate this award to my family. I’d like to thank ICC and most importantly my teammates. I’d also like to thank the support staff for our success.

We’ve had a great transition ever since Mahendra Singh Dhoni hung up his boots. A young captain has taken over, we fell on the right track, and we now have a new bunch of boys,” Ashwin said.

The off-spinner followed that with a tweet in similar tone. "I would like to take this day as an opportunity to thank @prithinarayanan @basu2013 @anilkumble1074 @imVkohli and my parents," Ashwin wrote on his Twitter handle @ashwinravi99.

That was enough to spark outrage from Dhoni supporters, who felt Ashwin had undercut the captain under whom he made his Test debut in 2011 and earned his stripes. Ashwin was also under Dhoni’s charge at the Chennai Super Kings.

“Switching gears @ashwinravi99 ! You forgot @msdhoni’s contribution for your success. You degraded him in your video and now this tweet,” frowned Shree Hari @ImShreeHari.

Gautam Kumar was sarcastic. “Thanks for ignoring the captain and legend @msdhoni Good luck for your upcoming tours,” he wrote from his handle @gautam_murali.
