Deccan Conquest boxing from October 5
This initiative aims at scouting, developing and promoting the best boxing talent in India.
HYDERABAD: As many as 48 boxers will contest in six weight categories over the next seven Saturdays in the professional boxing championship titled Deccan Conquest at Lal Bahadur Stadium between October 5 and November 23 in Hyderabad.
Corner Sports Promotions under its flagship title ‘Club Fights’ has launched a Talent Search program in four South Indian States of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in association with the Boxing Council and The South Indian affiliate of Professional Boxing India.
This initiative aims at scouting, developing and promoting the best boxing talent in India. The winner takes home the Deccan Champion title and the belt. Top four boxers in each weight will qualify for further trials of Hyderabad Boxing League.
Talent recruited through this program will be awarded ‘C’ Grade contracts and will represent Telangana in Professional Boxing Championships across India.
The weight categories are bantamweight (53 kgs), featherweight (57 kgs), lightweight (61 kgs), super welterweight (69 kgs), middleweight (72 kgs), heavyweight (90+ kgs).
Competition format consists four rounds of three minutes each, with one minute rest between each round. The competition is divided into two phases, a knockout/elimination phase and the deciders. The elimination phase will last four Saturdays with six bouts, one in each weight on a given day. The winners of the elimination phase qualify for the semifinals and subsequently to the finals.
Club Fights is a concept property inspired by age old boxing fight nights promoting boxing on a live platform, where the most promising boxers will showcase their skills. Maiden edition of Club Fights was held in Hyderabad on 28th April where 16 boxers participated in eight weight categories.
