Boris Savchenko emerges king of chess

Another Telangana player Khushagra Mohan with 7 points ended in the 14th place.

Hyderabad: Grand Masters Boris Savchenko of Russia and Adam Tukhaev of Ukraine, International Master Muhammed Khusenkhojaev of Tajikistan emerged top three players at the 1st Grandmaster Chess Open tournament held here.

Savchenko stood first with eight points and took home a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh; Tukhaev took got eight points and was richer by Rs 2 lakh. Khusenkhojaev secured 7.5 points. He too received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh.

Three Telangana players finished in the Top 25. They include Raja Rithvik who came 10th with 7 points. He joins the elite club of Five Grand Masters —Harikrishna, Harika, Arjun Erigaisi, Karthik Venkatara-man, Harsha Bharathakoti from Telangana. He will be the sixth Grand Master from Telangana organisers informed.

Another Telangana player Khushagra Mohan with 7 points ended in the 14th place.

J. Ramakrishna was 19th with 7 points.

Sarath Chandra was adjudged best player from Telangana while Chetan Sharma was declared the best from Andhra Pradesh.

The tournament attracted 160 players including 45 from Telangana and 22 internationals from 11 countries.

On the whole 39 prizes were given away in the tournament valued at Rs 12 lakh.
