Hyderabad: Pakistan former cricketer Kamran Akmal has on Monday issued a public apology to the Sikh community and Harbhajan Singh after his distasteful comments on Arshadeep Singh during India-Pakistan match on Sunday.

Taking to the micro-blogging site 'X', the former wicket-keeper batsman wrote, "I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to @harbhajan_singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry."
In a conversation over Arshadeep's bowling on a TV show, Akmal said, "Kuch bhi ho sakta hai...12 baj gaye hai..kisi sikh ko nahi dena chaiye 12 baje over."
Reacting strongly to the comments made by the Pakistani player, Indian veteran Harbhajan Singh tweeted, saying "Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before u open ur filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved ur mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o’clock . Shame on you guys.. Have some Gratitude @KamiAkmal23."
The low scoring match between India and Pakistan was a thriller and India won it by 6 runs in the final over. Defending only 18 runs, Arshdeep Singh had held his nerves in the last over to take the Indian side to victory.
