Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Jyothi Yarraji for becoming the first Indian athlete to win the women’s 100 mt hurdles event at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok.

He tweeted: My congratulations and best wishes to our very own @JyothiYarraji from Vizag, on winning gold at the 25th Asian Athletics Championships held in Thailand. You’ve made us all very proud Jyothi!

The athletes put up a fabulous show at the Asian Athletics Championship by winning three gold and two bronze medals on the second day of the event on Thursday.

Yarraji put up a tough fight while completing the race in 13.09 seconds, narrowly defeating two Japanese runners – Terada Suka and Aoki Masumi at the Supachalasai Stadium.

Ajay Kumar Saroj displayed exceptional talent and bagged the gold medal in the men’s 1500 mt race, while Abdulla Aboobacker, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, secured the gold medal in the men’s triple jump.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya Mishra won a bronze medal in the women’s 400 mt final and Tejaswin Shankar also won a bronze by exhibiting his mettle at the men’s decathlon.
