Hyderabad: Team India took on Ireland in their first T20 World Cup outing on Wednesday and registered a comfortable with their all round performance. Rohit Sharma with is scintillating performance had created many records in the match.
Opting to bowl first, India restricted Ireland to under 100 runs and Rohit, Virat Kohli took charge to chase the target.
On a difficult turf, as Kohli departed early, Rohit continued his innings until he was retired hurt at 52. India won the match by 8 wickets.
Records galore:
Rohit Sharma, who mesmerised the New York crowd with his batting, has created many records in the match.
600 international Sixes:
Rohit Sharma became the first player on the planet to hit 600 international sixers. He had done the feat in 499 innings. Following him are Chris Gayle and Shahid Afridi who scored 553 and 476 sixers respectively.
4000 runs in T20Is:
Rohit Sharma became only the third international player to score more than 4,000 runs in international T20s. Virat Kohli (4,038) and Babar Azam (4,023) did it before him. With 4,026 runs he took over Babar to reach the second spot.
Most wins in T20s (as captain):
After the victory, Rohit became the most successful Indian captain in T20 internationals. He surpassed MS Dhoni (42 wins in 72 matches) and registered 43 wins (55 matches) as Indian captain.
1000 runs in T20 WC:
Rohit Sharma also joined the elite club of scoring 1000 plus runs in the T20 World Cup. His team-mate Virat Kohli and former Sri Lanka player Mahela Jayawardane had achieved the feat earlier.
100 sixers in ICC limited over tournaments:
The Hitman as fans call him, became the only Indian to hit 100 sixes in ICC limited over tournaments.
