The biggest take away from the tournament is the trust in my tennis: Kevin Anderson
The South African lost to Gilles Simone in the final of the inaugural tournament in Pune .
Pune : Second seed and world no 12 Kevin Anderson said that inspite of losing the final to unseeded Gilles Simon, the tournament has turned out be good preparation for the season
" I had three good matches at Abu Dhabi and three matches here so it was good preparation for the season".
Anderson, who lost the 2017 US Open to Rafael Nadal, looked favorite going into the final summit but it was the unseeded Simon who had the final laugh in the title game. Speaking of his loss he said, " I had a disappointing day in office but it is very important to stay positive as there is an entire season to look forward to".
While Simon made the serves and returns look easy Anderson really struggled to get going as he was engaged in long rallies against the Frenchman, which worked in favor of Frenchman.
Anderson consistently failed to get his big serves going while his poor returns and unforced errors made the job tough for the tall South African.
"I didn't play very well today whereas Simon played smart and he played the key points very well,". he said.
Speaking about the biggest take from the tournament he said "I think the biggest take away from the tournament is the trust in my tennis. The results speak for themselves. Even in my quarter and semis, there were times when I wasn’t in the match but I broke free and controlled the game later. It gave me a lot of confidence, though today is tough, but you got to move on".
The World-no-14 will now head to Melbourne where he will be taking part in Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year.
