Sai Dedeepya wins at the AITA women's tournament

Dedeepya and Himani Mor of Haryana won the women's doubles title.

In the final, Dedeepya and Himani stunned the top-seeded Haryana-West Bengal combo of Neeru Rapria and Yubrani Banerjee 6-3, 6-4.

Fast-rising Hyderabad tennis player Y. Sai Dedeepya and her partner, Himani Mor of Haryana, were crowned the doubles champions at the All India Tennis Association’s women’s tournament played at Karnal in Haryana. Dedeepya and Himani, who had been in great form throughout the tournament, capped their run with an upset victory in the title clash, having beaten top seeds Neeru Rapria of Haryana and and West Bengal’s Yubrani Banerjee in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Dedeepya-Himani hit the ground running in the all-important final, reeling off a succession of winners as the top seeds were pushed nto a corner. It wasn’t long before Dedeepya and Himani pocketed the first set. They continued in the same vein in the second set and, except for an all-too-brief period of resistance from Yubrani and Neeru, clinched the set comfortably 6-4 and with it, the title.
