When Sachin Tendulkar foretold Roger Federer's meteoric rise to Yuvraj Singh

London: Sachin Tendulkar knows a legend when he sees one. The legendary Indian cricketer had predicted the rise of tennis great Roger Federer’s career long, long before anyone else could fathom.

“Federer makes tennis look so easy that even a common person could take to the sport. His game is effortless,” Sachin told The Telegraph.

Sachin, who was at the All England Club with Yuvraj Singh, back in 2002, watching a match between Federer and Andy Roddick of USA, recalled the time when he had a disagreement with his teammate about the next big sensation of tennis.

Yuvraj, evidently, was of the opinion that Roddick would go on to be greater than Federer. This was at a time, when neither of the players had won a single Grand Slam.

However, Sachin gave Yuvraj a simple reply that made it clear who this legendary batsman thought will go on to break just about every record in tennis: “We will talk about greatness 10-12 years down the line.”

Roger Federer created history on Sunday, as he became the first player to win eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles. The straight sets victory against Marin Cilic in the final also took his Grand Slam titles to an unprecedented 19. He also became the second player to lift the Wimbledon title without dropping a single set after Bjorn Borg (1976).
