Apuroop Reddy is 2nd best at U-18 tennis

Apuroop who clinched the first set with 6-3, against Tamil Nadu's V.M. Sandeep.

Hyderabad tennis player P. Apuroop Reddy had a wonderful outing throughout the tournament however his midas touch abandoned him in the finals as he finished runner-up in both the boys singles and doubles categories at the Under 18 Super Series tennis tournament that was held at recently at Trivandrum.

In the singles, Apuroop who clinched the first set with 6-3, against Tamil Nadu’s V.M. Sandeep, failed to convert his lead into a match winning performance and faltered ahead.

The next two sets turned out to be shockers for Apuroop as Sandeep pulled his socks up and came hard to take the second 6-3 before turning on the heat in the decider to take it 6-1 and with it the match.

In the doubles final, Apuroop and his partner G. S. Sanjay ran out of luck as they went down to the Tamil Nadu duo of S. Boopathy and V. M. Sandeep 4-6, 4-6.

Meanwhile in the girls singles, Prathiba Prasad Narayan outclassed Aaliya Ebrahim Zubair 6-3, 7-6(3).

The girls doubles final was a disappointing outing for Telangana’s Bhakti Shah and Maharashtra’s Aaliya as they lost to the duo of Trisha Vinod and Prerna V. Vichare 3-6, 4-6.

Girls singles: Prathiba Prasad Narayan bt Aaliya Ebrahim Zubair 6-3, 7-6(3). Doubles: Aaliya Ebrahim Zubair (MH)/Bhakti Shah (TS) 3-6, 4-6.
