Watch: Chess player uses mercury to poison rival, suspended

The Russian Chess Federation had suspended a 40-year-old player for allegedly trying to poison her rival during the Dagestan Chess Championship on August 2, media reports claimed.
CCTV footage of the incident is also going viral on social media platforms, where the accused can be seen taking something from her bag and putting it all over the board area where her targeted player was supposed to play the game.
The 30-year-old victim, Umayganat Osmanova has reported serious illness and claimed nausea and dizziness. She was later shifted to a nearby hospital for medical assistance. Media reports claimed that the doctors had confirmed poisoning.
The accused is a chess coach, who admitted that she put mercury from a thermometer to stop her childhood rival and tried to poison her to take revenge over an old personal insult, reports claimed.
The police authorities had taken her into custody and the player might face a jail term of up to three years.
