A soulful connect
Nikhil also inspired his brother to get into the profession.
The most important tool of photography is the camera but the magic of a great composition is created by the creative eye. For Nikhil Gore, who started working as a photographer with a very basic camera, it was nothing but creativity that gave his works that special edge.
“There was no one in my family to mentor me and I had a Rs 5,000 camera to work with. What I lacked in equipment had to be made up in skill. So I worked on my knowledge of light a lot. It was through online portals and tutorial videos that I honed my skill,” says the 26-year-old. His passion for photography began with landscapes. “I used to trek a lot and loved exploring places that were way off the beaten track. It was during one such trip that I felt the urge to capture the beauty of this world through the lens. I would often borrow cameras from my friends,” he shares.
One of his first trips as a travel photographer was to Kashmir. “I am thankful for that trip because that was the first time I became confident about my photography. After that I started following some of the most famous photographers around the world and that helped me a lot.” It was in 2014 that he started shooting professionally. Some of his favourite subjects are couples.
“There is a unique story behind every couple and I love to know such stories. While many people look down upon pre-wedding shoots, there is a lot to learn there as well. Sometimes even life lessons. I love to get to know what goes behind such pictures. It is also one of the most creative processes as you have to work with landscapes, specific settings as well as people.” Nikhil also inspired his brother to get into the profession. “He loves night photography. Photography is a beautiful medium that connects your soul to different subjects, depending on your personality.”
