Keep Healthy, Feel Wealthy

Exploring the transformative power of fitness, from Delhi's 'fittest cop' to yoga moms and laughter clubs.

From Inspector Rubal Dhankar's bodybuilding journey to Rina Hindocha's yoga sanctuary, fitness becomes a path to mental wellness.

Fitness embodies the harmony of a healthy body and a positive mind. When we think of fitness, it’s often an image of a bulky person lifting weights. While gym workouts, yoga, swimming, and runnin bring numerous physical benefits to the table, their impact on mental well-being is often overlooked. A brief 5-minute
exercise can lift mental health, releasing ‘feel-good’ endorphins and serotonin.
Fitness influencers credit the power of exercise in transforming mental health struggles into a journey of positivity and happiness.

TOP COP SECRET

When not chasing anti-social elements, Delhi police inspector Rubal Dhankar is busy pumping iron in the gym. Dubbed ‘India’s fittest cop’ Dhankar is a force to
reckon with. Speaking about how bodybuilding profoundly changed his life, Dhankar says, “After a major surgery left my face paralyzed, turning to fitness became my solace in fostering physical and mental well-being without medication.” Dhankar transformed his negative emotions and stress through bodybuilding. He is a world-renowned fitness influencer on Instagram and YouTube. Dhankar swears by the approach of ‘Hum fit hai toh job hit hai.’ He credits bodybuilding for boosting his holistic approach to stress and overall positive outlook in life.

THE TURNING POINT

Personal care and fitness take a backseat for many full-time moms. Telangana-based yoga and wellness coach Rina Hindocha went through a similar experience.

“Stepping onto the yoga mat after both my children’s deliveries was a turning point for me. At 80 kg, feeling disconnected and lacking inner peace, yoga
became my sanctuary. Shedding weight, gaining body awareness, and finding inner calm, became my lifeline amidst the 24x7 duty of motherhood,” says Rina.

Rina credits yoga for quick weight loss and a rubber band body. They promote mental clarity and enhance the quality  of life. Poses such as backbends (like Camel Pose or Wheel Pose), inversions (Headstand, Shoulder Stand), deep breathing, and vinyasa flow sequences can significantly boost endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine production.

“During a low phase, yoga and pilates were my guide in bringing clarity to my emotions, paving the way for healthy solutions,” shares Apoorva Jayarajan, a Pune-based yoga and Pilates coach.

With its eight aspects, coupled with deep breathing, yoga becomes a beautiful tool for introspection, allowing me to acknowledge and make sense of my feelings amid life’s gray moments, adds Apoorva.

A HEARTY LAUGH

The power of laughter does not fall far behind when it comes to healing and the overall well-being of a person. Laughter clubs in various cities across the country are like little havens and an oasis for people from all walks of life. “I spend 10 minutes laughing with my laughing pals every day at Priyadarshani Park. Laughter helps to heal and forget your sorrows,” says Iffat Sheikh (89), a resident of South Mumbai, who lost her husband 10 years ago. Laughter clubs like the Kataria’s Club, the Laughing Stock Club for senior citizens, and the Essence of Laughter all unite under the common umbrella of unity and offer little happiness amidst life's hustle-bustle.

LIFE’S FITNESS MANTRA

In the fast-paced world of competition, corporate pressure, and stress, finding time for fitness can be challenging. Yet, a brief 10–20-minute workout, whether it’s aerobics, powerlifting, or yoga, marks an excellent starting point for beginners. With a steadfast mindset, effective time management, and 7-8 hours of sleep, this becomes the mental oasis paving the way for a lifetime of stability and contentment.

THE RUSTIC CHARM

Wrestler and fitness influencer Ankit Baiyanpuria became an overnight internet sensation after he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi swept clean a dirty garden. While the PM talked about the importance of cleanliness and exercise, Ankit spoke about his fitness goals and natural workout tips. Ankit, who shared his 75-day workout challenge via YouTube and Instagram emphasizes not only on physical health but also mental well-being.

Regular physical exercise not only boosts self-esteem and cognitive function but also acts as a mood enhancer in reducing depression and anxiety.
