In what could be regarded as a shot at cheap popularity, stand-up comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina invoked the Bachchan name in poor taste, not once, but twice in a public forum.

Speaking on his comedy special Still Alive, Raina, who had appeared on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan in 2025, said he had lied when he said during the show that his grandmother was a big fan of the KBC host. Raina said that in fact his grandmother had passed on long before he appeared on KBC.

In a further departure from the norms of decency, Raina added that he had wanted to ask Amitabh Bachchan a question during the show – “Sir, aapne itna polio ka ad kiya, phir bhi apne bete ko paon pe kyu nahi khada kar paye?” (You have done so many polio ads; why couldn’t you get your son to stand on his own feet?)

The offensive clip from Still Alive has gone viral, triggering conversations across social media on the limits of roasting public figures.

The Bachchans are not amused by Raina’s ‘jokes.’

“What does this chap mean by saying he ‘wanted to ask’ this question on KBC?” demands a friend of the family. “Why didn’t he just ask? What is the point of mentioning it now? And if he lied about his grandmother, that’s between him and his grandmother. Please don’t use the Bachchans’ name to get noticed.”
