‘Deva explores the duality of man – the divine and the animal’
Shahid Kapoor lavishes praise on debutant Hindi director Rosshan Andrrews

“My screen name is ‘Dev’, but there’s also an ‘a’ in it – A for Asur,” said Shahid Kapoor, about his film Deva. Speaking at the trailer launch of the film, he said it explores the duality in people, and shared that it is also a reflection of Mumbai — “It has beauty, it also has an edge. That difference is what gives Mumbai its unique charm.”
The actor revealed that fans had been strongly urging him to do a “mass” film, and he had taken that step with Deva. “It’s a character crafted for the people,” he said. Sharing that this was one of the most challenging films for him as an actor, he added, “everyone will find a Deva in themselves.
Describing Deva as a movie made for the masses, Shahid praised Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews, who is debuting in Hindi with the film. “He is one of the finest directors; he has made a cracking film. It’s the magic of Rosshan that makes this a paisa vasool film,” he added.
Shahid plays a tough cop in the film, and the trailer showcased some high-octane action sequences as well as dance moves.
Rosshan Andrrews said, “Every director has a dream, and Deva is my dream. Shahid said ‘yes’ to it, so this dream came true. Deva belongs to the Janata.
