Nana Patekar, last seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War, is returning to the big screen with Vanvaas. He plays an abandoned father, navigating the challenges of old age. Anil Sharma, known for Apne and Gadar Ek Prem Katha, released the trailer for Vanvaas. Nana talks about the film, and a few other topics.
ON WORKING WITH ANIL SHARMA
Anil showed me two songs from Gadar 2, which were shot wonderfully. He is a director who loves to create characters that are larger than life. His stories are also very meaningful. Anil 25 saal leta hai ek film bananake liye. [He takes about 25 years to make a film!] but the outcome is superb, and Vanvaas is an example of that.
ON STAYING AWAY FROM FILMS WITH HIGH VIOLENCE
It’s about how you define violence. If a soldier kills someone at the border, it will not be considered violence. I would not like to portray unnecessary violence, murder and spilt blood. My film Prahaar had violence but it wasn’t meaningless.
IF VANVAAS IS SIMILAR TO BAGHBAN, AVATAR ETC.
Stories are the same mostly, as these are taken from real life. However, the presentation of this film is different, and it felt great. Playing a character who prefers dying to succumbing to problems also attracted me. I like doing such characters as audiences can relate to them. They teach us how to lead a respectable life.
ON CHANCES OF PLAYING VILLAIN IN GADAR 3
Can you picture Sunny picking me up and throwing me down repeatedly? I would not like to play such a character. There are some roles that don’t match our image. However, we will work together in some other meaningful tale which won’t be actionoriented
