10 technology predictions that turned out to be false

You thought that was true? You couldn't be more wrong!' Here are ten prophecies, guesses or predictions that were made in the tech world, that turned out to be painfully false.
William Thompson aka The Lord Kelvin, a mathematical physicist and engineer, had said that the x-ray will prove to be a hoax'. At their inception, x-rays were considered quite dangerous, but when used correctly it proved to be of an essential aid for medical advancement.
Mary Somerville, a radio pioneer said in 1948, “Television won't last; it's a flash in the pan”. However, by 1950s, television became a dominant form of entertainment and telecommunication.
Former CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, predicted in 2007 that the Apple's iPhone will not get any significant market share. Needless to say, he was wrong!
In 1820s, a scientific writer, Dionysius Lardner, said that rail travel at high speed I not possible because passengers will be unable to breathe due to high speed, and would die of asphyxia. Presently, the fastest train in the world, known as Shanghai Maglev, runs between Beijing and Shanghai at a top operating speed of 431kph.
New York Times in 1936 published in the newspaper that a rocket will never leave the Earth's atmosphere'. That was proven wrong just over two decades later, when the Russians launched Sputnik.
Before the year 2000 hit us, many people said how the millennium will cause the fall of humanity. However, the idea of the millennium bug was put to rest the minute the clock struck 12 on January 1, 2000. As early as the mid 80's people said that the year 2000 will bring in the judgement day, with machines and computers going haywire, as the systems will not be able to switch from 1999 to 2000.
After Boeing 247 took its first flight in 1932, an engineer from the company claimed that there will never be a bigger plane build'. Although, it was a revolutionary piece of steel built by Boeing at that time, since then the aviation industry has come a long way. Where the Boeing 247 accommodated 10 passengers, in 2015 the biggest aircraft, which is the Airbus A380, has a capacity of over 850 passengers.
In the early 1970s, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates allegedly said 640KB ought to be enough PC memory for anybody'. Presently, an Apple iPhone offers user an internal memory of 128GB.
The president of the Michigan Savings Bank predicted in 1903, that the horse is here to stay and the automobiles are only a novelty a fad.' Need we say more?
After inventing the first automatic machine gun, Hiram Maxim, in 1893 prophesied that, machine guns will make war impossible'. He has unfortunately been proven wrong on multiple occasions.
