Apple May Introduce ProMotion Across All iPhone 17 Models

MacRumors reported citing Weibo-based Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, which claimed that the standard iPhone 17 models will have a higher refresh rate display. However, the refresh rate (Hz) was not mentioned, but rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 standard models might have a 120Hz refresh rate.

Currently, ProMotion technology is limited to Pro models, and this will be the first time that Apple is introducing ProMotion to the base models. What enables the ProMotion is the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO), and Apple is expected to use the panels in all iPhone models.

Apple used low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panels for the base models. LTPS panels are capped at a maximum 60Hz refresh rate. With 120Hz, users can enjoy smooth scrolling in the base models if the report turns out to be true.

Analysts like Ross Young earlier claimed that the base models of the iPhone 17 will feature “ProMotion” technology.

The iPhone 17 series lineup is expected to be launched in September this year and is set to include a slimmer version called the iPhone 17 “Air”, replacing the Plus model.
