Social Media platform X has added a new image generator called “Aurora” to its Grok assistant. This new generator produces more photorealistic images compared to its predecessor.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Aurora has few restrictions, just like the first image generator, which was added to Grok in October. The latest image generator can generate images of copyrighted and public figures, like Mickey Mouse.
TechCrunch reported that in their brief tests, the model stopped short of nudes but generated “an image of a bloodied [Donald] Trump.”
Employees of xAI, Elon Musk’s AI startup, announced the launch of Aurora in posts on X on Saturday. However, the posts did not state whether xAI trained Aurora or if it was similar to its first image generator, Flux, which was collaborated with a third party.
The release comes after the social media network owned by Elon Musk made Grok AI chatbot free to all X users, previously only accessible to Premium users.
X is allowing free users 10 free prompts every two hours. Grok will let users generate 10 images, but only 3 images can be analyzed per day, and above that, a subscription is needed.
Elon Musk’s xAI raised $6 billion in its latest funding round and is also planning to launch a standalone app for its Grok chatbot, reported The Wall Street Journal.
