Chinese tablet aims to rival iPad Pro with Windows, Android dual OS
The Chuwi Hi8 Air tablet runs on both Windows 10 and Android 5.1, carrying with itself a keyboard.
Dual OS smart devices are pretty popular in China. These type of products are meant to deliver the practicality of both a Windows computer as well as the massive app ecosystem of Android. Chuwi is a name synonymous with these type of products and their latest offering in this category is the Hi8 Air tablet that also comes with a keyboard. Therefore, it makes this tablet an iPad Pro competitor. Or does it?
As with a majority of Chinese smartphones and tablets, the Hi8 Air is supposed to be an affordable device, which is clearly conveyed once you peek at its specifications sheet — a 1.44Ghz Intel X5 Cherry Trail Z8350 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB. While it runs Windows 10 for handling the PC functions, it still relies on Android 5.1, which is a dinosaur OS in 2018. It sports a 8-inch full HD display with 16:10 ratio and is powered by a 4000mAh battery. The company hasn’t shown the type of keyboard that it will ship with, but it is confirmed to be a Bluetooth keyboard.
While these kinds of products are highly reserved for countries like China, dual OS devices have tremendous opportunities in India as well, where consumers looking for an affordable alternative to budget laptops will have the ability to choose something that’s light yet versatile.
